Getting closer, I hope.

This last Wednesday, January 26, I received an email from one of the counselors in the Hong Kong Temple Presidency inviting us to serve in the Hong Kong China Temple. I emailed him back that our papers had already been submitted the first of January and that we were currently waiting to receive our call. I also mentioned that we would love to serve in the Hong Kong Temple, but that we had not indicated any mission preference in our application.
His email back to me that same Wednesday was curious. He said they just got word back from Salt Lake that we had already been assigned to another mission. He stated that would be "their loss, and another's gain", and "that we would probably find out soon where we had been assigned and when we would leave".
Needless to say, we have been checking the mail with renewed anticipation.

This past Friday, the 28th of January we were in the Vancouver Costco and crossed paths with friends from the Alpine Heights Ward where we had attended prior to moving to Cathlamet. They recently had returned from their mission, the Salt Lake City, Temple Square Mission, where he had served as one of the Counselors in the Mission Presidency. Apparently his assignment was to help identify and suggest Senior Couples from the application pool to serve in their mission. All the other "departments" would do the same, and names and suggestions were then submitted to the General Authorities for final approval/ratification.

My guess is that the information given the Hong Kong Temple Presidency, that we had already been assigned, might be the first round, pending ratification by a member of the 12 apostles.

Maybe we will know more this Friday. We had received our last call to the West Virginia Mission on a Friday, so we'll see.
